Dialogatory – 2026-07 – Verbs of Knowing

Theme: Verbs of Knowing

We tend to talk about knowledge as a thing — possessed, produced, transmitted. But knowing is something we do. What are the verbs? Discovering, assembling, composing, touching, resonating, attuning — each carries a different sense of what knowing is, who does it, and what it asks of the world. Some verbs need a subject. Others need a between. What are the implications for understanding the nature of knowing, and for who (or what) gets to count as a knower?

Stimulus

What happens to our modes of knowing and how would our practices change if we change the verbs? What verbs can we explore together?

Preparation

Think of a moment when you genuinely came to know something — not learned a fact, but knew something in a way that stayed. What were you doing? What verb fits that moment?
